Craig David has made his fortune since rising to fame in 1999, when he featured on the song Re-Rewind by Artful Dodger. He has had a fruitful career and was made MBE just last year for his services to music.
In a poll taken in 2009 by MTV UK, this debut album was voted the second greatest album of all time behind Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”.
In a career that has spanned over 20 years so far, the artist has released a further five studio albums.
Over his career, Craig has worked with stars such as Sting, Tinchy Stryder, Big Narstie, Kano, Big Sean, Bastille and AJ Tracey.
Worldwide, he has sold 15 million records as a solo artist.
One phase of Craig’s career was when Celebrity Juice comedian Leigh Francis caricatured him on the Bo’ Selecta! TV show from 2002 to 2009.
Craig revealed to The Sunday Times in 2007: “The whole Bo’ Selecta! thing was killing me for a while because this idiot had a cult following and I was the main caricature. … Inside it was absolutely p** me off and hurtful beyond belief.”
More recently, he admitted to The Daily Mirror: “If I’m super honest, I was actually always totally cool with it”, adding, “It was just people around me trying to amp it all up, fuelling the fire.”
Craig took a hiatus from the music industry after the ridiculing on Bo’ Selecta! and moved to Miami for six years.
Regardless, the incident clearly did not hinder Craig’s overall success.
His 2016 single “When The Bassline Drops”, with Big Narstie, was in the top ten in the UK Singles Charts.
Later that year, his comeback album Following My Intuition rocketed to number one, a first since his debut album sixteen years prior.
He has had enormous success at muisc award shows too; while he hasn’t yet reached the top spot, he has been nominated for 14 Brit awards.
He has also received two Grammy Award nominations for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance.
With his money, it’s no surprise that the star lives luxuriously, reportedly spending $4.68million (around £3.53million) for a penthouse condo in Miami in 2009.
Nowadays, Craig resides in North London, telling My London: “I love by myself.”
Although Craig was speculated to be romantically involved with model/actress Sofia Vergara in 2003, most of his career he has remained single – so it appears he does not have a girlfriend to spend his large net worth on.
